As a child Joanne was exceptionally talented at painting and drawing. Her attention shifted toward fashion design as she matured and at the age of eighteen she traveled to Paris to study fashion at LISAA (L’Institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués).
In 2008 Joanne graduated cum laude. Her design collection embraced extreme sports and featured fabrics that expressed mobility, sensuality and lightness. Immediately following her studies, Joanne held a six month internship at the international trend agency Peclers in Paris.
Subsequent to this and other events, Joanne made the decision to realize her dream and start her own design label.
In March 2010, Joanne presented her first A/W 2010-2011 collection at Tranoi Paris. This was followed by a fashion show for a limited professional audience that caught the attention of representative boutiques.
In June 2010, the US Ambassador to Belgium and his wife hosted Joanne’s unique runway show on the rooftop terrace & garden of their Residence in Brussels where she showed her S/S 2011 creations.
Joanne also participated at 080 Barcelona Fashion in July 2010. In March 2011, during Paris Fashion Week, she presented her A/W 2012 collection at ‘Showroom Belgium’ of the Flanders Fashion Institute.
Her collections are inspired by a symbiosis of minimalism and delightfully asymmetric volumes which also incorporate her interpretation of timeless elegance and sensuality. Uncompromised, distinctively refined luxury fabrics, comfortably cut and traditionally crafted are the embodiment of Joanne Vanden Avenne’s signature pieces. As part of her design process, she may integrate several fabrics into one garment, such as a wedding dress with crepe de chine, jersey and silk muslin. She may also apply touches of color to her fabrics, using nature elements as her inspiration. Her expression of color translates back to her passion for painting.
Her A/W 2011-2012 collection exhibits earth tone colors with various shades of moss green along with black and white. Metallic shades of old silver, copper and gold imbue her work with an enhanced and subtle glow.
Additionally, Joanne brings fine knitwear, such as boleros and cardigans, to all of her collections. She also retains a special fondness for tunics that can be worn as mini-dresses or combined with pants. Her current collection is augmented with fine leather belts and she intends on expanding her collection with other high quality accessories such as shoes and bags.
Joanne's designs resonate with all dynamic women, those young and those young at heart, who wish to impress on any occasion, in an elegant and natural way. Sizes vary from 34 to 46.
